A songwriter and producer as well as singer, he is the
winner of the Amalia Rodrigues Award for Best Album of 2004 with his
“Luz de Lisboa,” and a highly regarded performer across Europe. He
appears with the traditional accompaniment of Portuguese guitar and
classical guitar. Lisbon is the starting point. Several Fado songs describe this city, its more traditional working-class neighbourhoods and the places often associated with Fado in photographic detail, portraying as well the experiences of its inhabitants. Lisbon is the background for a number of sung stories always infused with feelings such as love, happiness, passion, hope, doom, sadness, and longing, that are experienced in each Fado, sung in each verse, felt in each melody. This journey also takes us through the different types of Fado: the traditional and classical Fados, and the "Fado canção", celebrating the main artificers of this musical genre: The Singers, The Musicians, The Poets, The Audience and all those who in their life may identify with Fado. The final stage is a reflection about the proposed journey, culminating in the most classic of all Fados: the "Fado Menor", thus celebrating Fado itself. |
