Portal do Fado

Avelino Ferreira de Sousa was a poet and playwright, a great supporter of Fado, which led him to publish, in 1912, the book “O Fado e os Censores”.

Son of Amélia da Conceição Proença, Júlio Proença was born in the Mouraria on the 25 October 1901, and fell the fado appeal at a young age, learning to sing with his mother.

Son of João Pais do Amaral and Adelaide da Conceição, Duarte Pais Amaral was born in Lisbon, in the parish of Socorro, on December 16, 1913.

Daniel Gouveia, nasceu em Lisboa, na freguesia de Arroios, em 1943.

António Domingos Abreu Rocha was born inLisbon, on the 20 June 1938. After finishing primary school, he left school because he needed to find a job and help the family income.

Márcia Condessa was born in Monção, Minho, on the 28 September 1915. Not affording to study, she came to Lisbon looking for a job.

Her relationship with fado began in childhood, accompanying her mother and her aunt to the “Sabá” beer house (later renamed to “Cesária”).

Natural do Porto, onde nascera em 1924, Artur Ribeiro gostava de cantar em miúdo mas o seu temperamento tímido fazia-o cantar escondido atrás de uma cortina.
