José Marino Abreu de Freitas was born on November 3, 1960 in Funchal.

He grew up in a family of musicians and started his career at Conservatório Escola das Artes Engº Peter Clode.

In 1974 he started to work in the most rated hotels and night clubs in Madeira and for 15 years he joined several bands in the region.

He continues his training in London, where he attends the Musicians Academy, finishing the Course in Electric Bass with distinction.

After completing his studies, he returned to Madeira where he was distinguished by the Regional Government, for his renowned musical career.

At the invitation of Fernando Pereira, he joins his band, which motivates him to move his residence to Lisbon. Later, he joined the orchestra that accompanied Herman José's television programs.

It is in 2004 that Marino de Freitas begins his foray into Fado, developing his artistic activity not only as a musician, but also as a producer, composer and orchestrator.

In 2006 he received the award for Best Bass Player, at the II Grand Gala of the Amália Rodrigues Awards. In the same year, he joined Mariza's tour for the album "Terra". A three-month season on the east coast of the United States of America, with a total of 45 concerts.

Marino de Freitas also records five songs he composed for the voice of Linda Leonardo. A project that he considered as one of the most interesting for his career in the area of ​​Fado. He signed the production of several albums, including the debut work of Amália do Rosário, a Madeiran fado singer.

With Mafalda Arnauth, he also produced and assumed the musical direction of the album "Diário", published by Universal Music.

Throughout his career in Fado, he has recorded and accompanied names such as Ana Moura, Carlos do Carmo, Chico Madureira, Cristina Branco, Joana Amendoeira, João Braga, Jorge Fernando, Maria da Fé, Mariza, Mísia, Pedro Moutinho, Teresa Tapadas or Mafalda Arnauth.
