Carminho first performed in public when she was twelve.

Occasionally singing in Taverna do Embuçado, in Alfama, Lisbon, she met some of the great names of Fado, true living memories of the song essence. After finishing college, Carminho travelled around the world, participating in humanitarian missions in India, Cambodia, Peru and Timor. After that she came back to Portugal and started singing regularly in a Fado house and rapidly gets requested by some greatest national and international stages, participating also in the multi-awarded film “Fados” by Carlos Saura.

In 2009 Carminho released her first album “Fado” considered “the greatest revelation in the past ten years” (Time Out Lisboa, 27th May 2009), “Fado” ended up winning “Best Album” by British Songlines magazine. Carminho then started a tour comprising 60 concerts within Portugal and Spain. Seen has a symbol of her generation, in 2011 she became Portuguese Ambassador of the programme “Youth on the Move”, invited by the European Commission. This is also the year for the start of a solid international career that will take Carminho to the main stage of Womex (World Music Expo), and to several concerts in the United Kingdom, France, Netherlands, Mozambique and Spain. Singing “Perdoname” with Latin star Pablo Alborán, made Carminho the first Portuguese artist to attain first position in Spanish music charts.

The second album, “ALMA”, in 2012, debuted in the first place of Portuguese tops and left a mark in several international music charts.

Already at the end of 2012, after a tour comprising more than ninety concerts in Portugal and abroad, one of Carminho’s dreams came true: she recorded with Brazilian superstars Chico Buarque, Milton Nascimento and Nana Caymmi.

2013 has been the year of Carminho’s confirmation in Brazil, judging by the surprising concerts during the opening of “Carnaval de Recife” and sold out concerts in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and throughout the country.

In 2013 Carminho is confirmed as one of the most international Portuguese artists, taking her voice to the four corners ofthe earth. At the same time, in Portugal, Carminho receives a Portuguese Golden Globe and the prestigious Carlos Paredes award, seeing both albums receive the double platinum mark.

At the end of 2014, she releases “Canto”, and her relationship with Brazil took on even deeper roots, with Caetano Veloso's first partnership with his youngest son Tom who offered him the unprecedented “O Sol, Eu e Tu” and participations of several foreign artists.

In 2016, following an invitation from the family of one of the greatest composers in the world, he recorded “Carminho sings Tom Jobim”, with the last band that accompanied his live in his last ten years, sharing themes with Marisa Monte, Chico Buarque and Maria Bethânia.

After the great success achieved with the album "Carminho Canta Jobim", the Portuguese singer, considered one of the greatest interpreters in the history of our music, is back with a new album of originals. "Maria", the fifth album of her career, is the most personal ever, where she reveals herself as a producer and includes several songs of her own.
