Teresa de Jesus Pinto Coelho Telles da Silva adopted an old family name and became known as Teresa Tarouca.

Great-granddaughter of Tarouca’s Counts, her family was very fond of music. She is cousin of Frei Hermano da Câmara and Maria Teresa de Noronha.

She starts singing at the age of eleven in benefit shows and during the 50’s she was considered a child prodigy. At the age of 13, she had her début at the Salão dos Bombeiros de Oeiras. In 1958, she won the Oscar da Imprensa.

In 1962, she signed her first recording contract with RCA.

Teresa Tarouca is distinguished by working with some well-known authors: D. António de Bragança, João de Noronha, Alfredo Marceneiro, Pedro Homem de Mello, Maria Manuel Cid, among others.

During her artistic life, Teresa Tarouca had the chance to perform on several stages of the world as Denmark, Belgium, Spain, United States of America, Brazil, and Macau. In 1973, she was invited to the Festival da Canção (TV Song Contest).

On May of 1994, she celebrated 33 years singing on a great show at Teatro Tivoli and she usually sings. In 1996, she performed at Coliseu dos Recreios, in Lisbon.

She performed in “Velho Pátio de Santana”, in 2003.

From her repertoire, we must highlight songs such as "Meu bergantim", "Não sou fadista de raça" and "Saudade, Silêncio e Sombra".

In 2013, Teresa Tarouca received the Commendation of the Order of Infante D. Henrique and died on November 11th, 2019.
